“Women made up just 2% of cyber roles when I started. It’s amazing to see that number grow to where it is today, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

Jessie, a security and tech leader with over 20 years under her belt, is dedicated to helping businesses innovate quickly and safely by ensuring their security capabilities are always up to speed with innovations.

She started her career as an on-premises network administrator before rising to Director of Technology and has continued the momentum in various security leadership roles since then. She also mentors and coaches women in cyber in their personal and professional growth, extending the hand she felt she needed but was rarely available earlier in her career.

What makes you proud to be a part of the cybersecurity industry?

We have all experienced or know someone who’s had their personal data compromised. Security, at its core, is about feeling safe from harm. I’m proud to work in an industry that protects people from harm.

What do you do for fun?

Roller skating at the beach fills my inner 12-year-old with joy. I’m also a mom of three and enjoy spending time with my family.

What advice would you give a woman who wants to pursue a cyber career but doesn’t think they are qualified?

Understand your “why” for working in cyber. It will help you navigate the tough times, reframing them as chances to grow or approach something differently, not failures.

How can we attract more women to the cybersecurity industry?

I don’t think the problem lies solely with hiring. Retaining and promoting women requires ensuring an inclusive work environment. We need more women in cybersecurity leadership roles!
