Hailing from Algeria, Assia had set her eyes on an engineering career but found her calling in cybersecurity. Her journey began in the oil and gas industry, where she immersed herself in various tech ventures with cybersecurity elements, naturally leading to her formal break into the field.
Assia firmly believes in the transformative power of bringing together diverse perspectives to solve critical problems and the power of having visible women in cyber for the next generation of female cybersecurity leaders.
What is one skill, interest or talent of yours that makes you GREAT at your job?
I love learning new things. I was a little nervous about switching from engineering to cyber, but it made me excited and happy. I ask lots of questions, which helps me spot and remove blockers so my team can be successful.
What advice would you give a woman who wants to pursue a cyber career but doesn’t think they are qualified?
Check out the backgrounds of the women and men in cyber, and look for employee groups focusing on cyber and mentorship opportunities.
What is your biggest strength as a leader?
I’ve developed a skill for listening, understanding and connecting peoples’ perspectives. I have a diverse team. If everybody thinks like I do, we wouldn’t be successful.
What do you love about working in the cybersecurity industry?
There’s always something new to learn, and I know I’m making an impact. Cyberattacks hurt people–our kids and neighbors–and their livelihoods.
