It’s almost #MothersDay, and everyone *loves* moms—but legislation says… otherwise. Since this clip filmed on John Oliver in 2015, here’s where a few things stand:

➡️ The U.S. is one of only 7 countries that doesn’t legally require paid time off for new parents.

➡️ 13 of 50 U.S. states, including Washington, D.C. now have statewide paid family leave.

➡️ 21 of 50 U.S. states ban or restrict access to early abortions.

➡️ The U.S. has the second most expensive child care system in the world, only behind New Zealand.

➡️ 4 in 10 U.S. parents are in debt due to the cost of child care.

It’s about time the system accommodated 50% of the population. We need to work toward shifts that help women and families—affordable child care, flexible work, postpartum care and better parental leave policies, to name a few.

A teacher’s impact lasts a lifetime.

When Tracy Dixon-Salazar’s daughter, Savannah, first had a seizure, she didn’t know what it was. It became hundreds of seizures every day and doctors couldn’t tell her family why.

As any parent would, Tracy had questions. She took matters into her own hands. She returned to school and earned her Ph.D., becoming a neuroscientist, geneticist, and patient advocate. During her research tenure, and after 16 years of watching daily, unrelenting seizures in her child, she uncovered the driver of her daughter’s illness and identified a novel precision therapy that improved her child’s life, effectively reducing the number of seizures.

Joining the ranks of legends 🎶 With The Tortured Poets Department #TaylorSwift has now earned 14 No. 1s on the Billboard 200. 👏 That ties her with Jay-Z on the ranking among solo musicians. Only The Beatles have more No. 1 albums with 19.
It’s no secret that women are underrepresented across the technology industry, including cybersecurity. In fact, women make up only 25% of the cybersecurity field globally.

With the rise of cybersecurity threats, the industry is booming. At its current rate, the cybersecurity sector is projected to surpass a global revenue of $657 billion by 2030. Now, more than ever, having #cybersecurity at the heart of an organization’s strategy is crucial, and requiring diverse thinkers. There is more opportunity, and necessity, for women to break into the field than ever before.

But what discourages women from entering into cybersecurity? Early findings from our new research, conducted by The Female Quotient and Deloitte, show that 50% of young working women lack sufficient knowledge of cybersecurity as a field of employment. It’s time to educate, empower, and convey that the cyber industry isn’t only about technical skills, but the equally important “soft skills” like communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and attention to detail. Stay tuned for more findings from our report in September 2024.

The Female Quotient and @Deloitte are amplifying the voices of women and girls at the forefront of tech and cyber. The women in this community are the best in their field, working at the highest levels to innovate, safeguard, and lead complex programs at some of the biggest companies in the world.

Thank you @kodewithklossy for leading the way, inspiring and teaching girls in #tech!

File under: Did we really need a study to prove this? 📂

Even the slightest bit of attention on women’s sports can reveal obvious problems—and solutions. For instance, research shows that female soccer players who compete in white shorts underperform due to period anxiety.

Women players who wore dark colored shorts performed better while men who played in white shorts experienced no drop in performance. Ditch the white shorts for good.
Once an athlete, always an athlete.

At 66, Betty was told she had the cardiovascular health of a 42-year-old. At 98, she completed a 5K in under an hour—and was the only woman in the 95-99 age group. Anyone else feel like lacing up all of a sudden? 👟
There is absolutely no shame in asking for help, whether that’s through therapy, medication or any other way to cope. Bravo @kristenanniebell for sharing your experience and for using your platform to normalize mental health.

With an IMDB page of over 80 acting roles, it wasn’t until @priyankachopra’s role in Citadel, which debuted in 2023, that she achieved pay parity with her male costars.

While some progress has been made, it’s clear there is work to be done to achieve #equalpay for all! #AAPIHeritageMonth
